Between lockdowns, music journalist and artist manager Benjy Eisen curated a socially-distanced Grateful Dead night in the backyard of a private West Hollywood bungalow for just a few lucky witnesses (tested, socially distanced, masked), as part of Jordan Zucker’s “Funk the Rona” concert series.

Eisen’s all-stars consisted of Reed Mathis (Billy & the Kids, Electric Beethoven), Adam MacDougall (Circles Around the Sun, Black Crowes), Wally Ingram (Timbuk 3, Banyan), and John Lovero (The Higgs). Dubbed “The West Hollywood Fadeaways” for the evening, the band has rebranded itself as “JOIN” for a special one-time only webcast on Christmas Eve.

The performance features improvisational-heavy takes on classics from the Grateful Dead songbook, as well as a fun little excursion based on a Phish theme. This show is made extra special by the fact that the band members had literally just met each other moments before — there were no advance rehearsals, thereby giving music fans a rare glimpse at a special kind of magic and allowing viewers to witness the moment of inception.

The band felt this performance was too special not to share. In keeping with the intimate vibe of the initial show, there will only be a limited number of “tickets” available for the livestream, which is “pay what you will” via StageIt. Advance tickets are strongly encouraged as it is likely to “sell out.”

The artists felt that staging this on Christmas Eve was important, as all the band members live in California where “stay home” orders are in effect.
If you have to stay home, you might as well JOIN the band…
